Look after yourself properly

  • Protect your skin and eyes.  Cement based products are alkaline and can cause burns to exposed skin or eyes.
  • All 20kg bags of cement products require 2 people to lift them safely. Always follow safe lifting procedures to avoid injury.  So you will need a friend to help you handle the 20kg bag of Sand & Cement.

HOW TO USE SAND & CEMENT TO SET A NEW TOILET PAN

1
PREPARE FOR THE MORTAR BASE

Carefully mark the outline of the area to be covered by the toilet pan. Score the floor tiles with a tile cutter or angle grinder to allow the bedding to set on a roughened surface to ensure adequate binding. Remove any dust or loose materials from the tiles.

2
MIX THE SAND & CEMENT

Add one 20kg bag of  Sand & Cement to a large bucket and add 3.5 litres of clean water. Mix well with a trowel or drill and mixing attachment to achieve a workable mix remembering that excess water will weaken the strength of the mortar.

3
FORM A MORTAR BED

Apply the mixed product around the scored out areas of the tiles leaving a slight gap around the pan connector on S-trap installations. The mortar bed should be approximately 50-60mm in height.

4
SET THE PAN ON THE MORTAR BED

Set the toilet pan into the bed of mortar ensuring that it remains 10mm above the finished floor. Ensure that the pan is level by checking it with a spirit level.

5
FINISHING OFF

Remove any excess mortar, trowel the outside of the mortar bed smooth and wipe the pan clean with a sponge or wet cloth.
