Cement Australia has officially launched its first packaged Low Carbon Cement at the IHG Expo 2025, which took place in February at the Adelaide Convention Centre. IHG (Independent Hardware Group) is the largest independent hardware group in Australia, and a leader when it comes to servicing the trade market, consisting of brands such as Mitre 10 and Home Hardware.
The new Low Carbon Cement is now available in 20kg bags and 1 tonne bulk bags and is designed to serve as a direct replacement for General Purpose (GP) Cement, in both concrete and mortar applications.

Reducing Carbon
By incorporating a blend of GP Cement, fly ash, and GreenCemâ„¢ technology, Low Carbon Cement achieves a 30% reduction in embodied carbon compared to traditional GP Cement. This new product also brings additional benefits such as lower permeability, enhanced durability and improved workability.
GreenCemâ„¢ technology has been developed by Cement Australia at its NATA accredited testing laboratory in Brisbane.
Independently Verified
The cement complies with the Type GB requirements of Australian Standard AS3972 and is the first packaged low carbon cement supported by an independently verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). The EPD Australasia register hosts verified documents from brands across Australia that provide data on the lifecycle environmental impact of a product.
The features and benefits of Low Carbon Cement were well received by IHG members during the conference, with many seeing the need for a sustainable cement solution moving forward.
